Counseling and Consulting
Every person has points in their life where they experience struggles. Frequently we are able to weather these struggles with the help of friends, family, and other resources that we have available to us. During the course of these struggles, and as a result of successfully weathering through them, we grow as a person. Our confidence in being able to handle future issues grows and our relationships improve with those that helped us through the struggle.Sometimes the struggles we experience are greater than our ability to cope. In these cases, we exhaust our resources and run out of the ideas or the energy needed to get through. We begin to struggle to do the basic things we need to do in order to maintain our relationships, our homes, and our jobs. When we reach this point, it is time to seek outside help. Counseling and Consultation services are designed to help us get through the rough times so that we can have at least the positive outcomes we typically have.
The Tungland Corporation offers a variety of services to fit individualized needs. All counseling services provide an individualized treatment plan developed collaboratively between the counselor and the client:
Individual Counseling
A series of one to one counseling between the individual and the counselor that lasts 50 minutes long. Individual counseling is best suited to helping a person to develop thought patterns and skills that will increase their ability to function in unique situation.Family Counseling
A series of sessions including immediate family members and the counselor. Sessions may last 50 minutes or 80 minutes depending upon the issues, and the size of the family group. Family counseling is best suited to helping in situations where the issues are effecting the family as a whole.Group Counseling
A series of sessions including individuals who have similar issues and one or two counselors. Sessions last 80 minutes. Group counseling is best suited to the same types of issues as Individual Counseling. However, individuals who chose group counseling will be participating with other non-professionals in the group setting and therefore take turns in working on their individual issue. However, this allows the benefit of having the opportunity to learn a number of skills that are not as easily obtained in individualized counseling.Consultation Services
These services are not counseling services, but can meet many of the same functions in situations where counseling is not possible, or not preferable (i.e., the person is non-verbal and cannot participate in talking therapy, or the person refuses to participate in counseling therapy but is living in a community setting). Consultation consists of three distinct phases.- Assessment Phase. In this phase the consultant works with the individual, their family, and any other relevant people to identify the issues present, the behaviors the individual utilizes to cope with the issues, and ultimately what the individual gains from their behavior.
- Intervention Development Phase. In this phase, the consultant works with the individual, their family, and any other relevant people to implement and test interventions. These interventions are designed to teach the person alternative behaviors that they can utilize to cope with their issues, obtain better outcomes, and improve their relationships with others around them.
- Fading Phase. In this phase, the consultant works with the individual, their family and any other relevant people to build their confidence and understanding of the interventions and how to make adjustments as needed in the future. The goal is to help people to have the skills and confidence to deal with similar issues in the future without needing to seek the same degree of professional assistance.
